Dr. Ryan Noe is a freelance trumpeter throughout New England. He currently holds the position of Principal Trumpet for the Glens Falls Symphony and is a founding member of the Ironside Brass. He will be joining the Boston based group Phoenix for their 2016-2017 season. He has also performed throughout New England with groups such as the Cape Ann Symphony, Cape Cod Symphony, Symphony Nova, New Bedford Symphony, and the Boston Chamber Orchestra. Dr. Noe has participated as a semi-finalist for the National Trumpet Competition in the Graduate Ensemble Division in 2012 and Solo Division in 2014. He has also attended the Castleton Music Festival, the Ohio Light Opera Festival, and the Bay View Music festival.
Along with his work as a performer, Dr. Noe is an in-demand brass pedagogue. He currently serves as the Adjunct Brass Instructor for Northern Essex Community College and the Adjunct Instructor of High Brass for Northeastern University. Dr. Noe also teaches for the Instrumental Music School of Concord-Carlisle, North Andover Public Schools, and Randolph Public Schools. Formerly, Dr. Noe served as the trumpet workshop assistant Boston University Tanglewood Institute and non-music major trumpet instructor at Boston University. His students have been accepted into the music programs of Boston University, University of Connecticut, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Syracuse University, University of Maine, and University of New Hampshire. They have also been awarded positions in the Northeastern District of Massachusetts Senior and Junior Band and Orchestra Festivals, Northeastern District of Massachusetts Junior Jazz Band Festival, Northeastern Massachusetts Youth Orchestra, New England Conservatory’s Festival Youth Orchestra, Tufts Youth Philharmonic, and the Eastern District of Massachusetts Junior Band and Orchestra Festival.
Originally from Plymouth, Michigan, Dr. Noe earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Western Michigan University in 2008 and his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from Boston University in 2011 and 2015, respectively. His primary teachers have included Scott Thornburg (Kalamazoo Symphony), Terry Everson (Boston Modern Orchestra Project), Thomas Siders (Boston Symphony), and Peter Chapman (Boston Symphony). He currently resides in Roxbury, Massachusetts with his wife and two cats.
