Pow-Wow 2010

Ages 5*-12 years (students must be entering kindergarten by September 2010)

Duration: 2 weeks

Artistic Directors:Nina Grimaldi, Yas Ishibashi, Jane Parkhouse

Pow-Wow is an innovative, hands-on introduction to violin, piano, music and movement, acting, group singing, and arts and crafts for children ages 5-12. This program is a unique opportunity for young children to experience total immersion in a musical environment. At the end of each session the children perform an operetta written by the faculty.

Classes are Monday - Friday

Session 1:
      June 21 - July 2, 2010 9:00 am-3:00 pm

Session 2:
      July 5-July 16, 2010 9:00 am-3:00 pm
      Instructors: Lee Hadden, Yas Ishibashi, I-Chen Lu and Jane Parkhouse

Session 3:
      July 19-July 30, 2010 9:00 am-3:00 pm
      Instructors: Yas Ishibashi, I-Chen Lu, Jane Parkhouse

Session 4:  
      August 2 -August 13, 2010 9:00 am-3:00 pm
      Instructors: Nina Grimaldi, Alexandra Hadden, I-Chen Lu

TUITION

  • Pow-Wow Student Tuition: $875
  • Materials fee: $10 per session.
  • Applications fee: $15 (there is no fee for students who have paid their 2009-2010 Powers Music School annual registration fee).
  • There are no tuition discounts.

REGISTRATION

  • NEW! Pow-Wow registration is now available by mail! Registrations are final and no refunds are available.
  • Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Class enrollment is limited to 30 Pow-Wow students and 2 CIT students per session.
  • Each registration must be accompanied by full tuition unless submitting a financial aid application.
  • Families with multiple children wishing to attend Pow-Wow program must include a completed registration form for each child.
  • No tuition discounts.
  • Tuition and registration fee are non-refundable.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Each session lasts 2 weeks. Sessions 1 and 4 will feature the operetta The Drums of Noto Hanto, and Sessions 2 and 3 will feature an operetta based on Diane Stanley's story, Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter. Operettas are subject to change.
  • NEW! All four sessions feature the extended day program and run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. Early release from Pow-Wow is not available.
  • The last two days of each session feature dress rehearsals.
  • The final operetta performance takes place at 7:00 pm on the last day of each session.
  • During the day, the Pow-Wow program includes small group instruction classes. Children are grouped strictly by age and not by musical ability or friendships.

FINANCIAL AID

Call (617) 484-4696 for information and an application form. Completed financial aid applications for Pow-Wow students must be submitted by March 8th, together with the completed registration form and $15 non-refundable registration fee (if applicable). Financial aid for the CIT program is also available. All requests for CIT financial aid must be received in the office no later than 6:00 pm on March 8, 2010.
