COMPOSITION AND MUSIC THEORY


Ages 10 - Adult

The following composition and music theory programs are taught as either a private or semi-private lesson. Days and times of the lessons are arranged according to the instructors' schedule.

Creative Music Writing

Instructor, Todd Brunel

Be creative and learn to notate and record your musical ideas. Learn to write your own compositions while you explore the world of early music, jazz, classical, and crossover fusion music. Open to all instruments.

Jazz Composition 101

Instructor, Michael Shea

Jazz Composition 101 is an introduction to writing and arranging contemporary music. During the lessons, students will study harmony and musical structure as they learn to produce a collection of their own musical compositions on the keyboard. Open to advanced beginner and higher level piano students.

Music Theory/Ear-Training

Instructor, Kathryn Rosenbach

Music theory and ear training are critical parts of music appreciation and of becoming an accomplished musician. Students work on developing good ear training while also studying scales and intervals. Studying theory is a great supplement to private lessons. This course is tailored to all students who play at the intermediate level.

Reading Music for Singers

Instructor, Kathryn Rosenbach

Reading musical notation and understanding rhythms is important for singers at all levels. Singers will learn the basics of sight-reading music as they transition from solfege to understanding pitch and rhythm. This course is appropriate for all levels of singers ages 13 and up.
