Dalcroze Eurhythmics
Ages: 3 to 6 years
Instructor: Yas Ishibashi
Dalcroze Eurhythmics is a study of music through movement, developed by Swiss music educator Emille Jaques Dalcroze at the turn of the 20th century. Dalcroze realized that true musical understanding and ability required an education of the entire body and not just of the intellect alone. Eurhythmics is a wonderful way for young people to begin involvement in the world of music. Eurhythmics focuses on musical listening, which in turn inspires creativity and expression. Through movement games children begin to gain literacy in the language of music, as well as to develop a sense of self-confidence in space, an ability to lead and to follow, and a feeling for the ensemble of a group activity.
Each Eurhythmics class includes:
singing and playing instruments.
movement skills.
learning multi-cultural musical traditions as well as Western European repertoire.
Classes focus on four important skills:
aural skills
movement
spatial awareness
social experience
Eurhythmics is spontaneous and improvisational allowing each child to create and have a sense of accomplishment working as a group.
