Jei-Yern Ryu

Piano

Born in Seoul, Korea, Jei-Yern Ryu has won prizes in several national and international competitions including the World Piano Competition and Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition. She made her orchestral debut with the Seoul National University Orchestra in Seoul Arts Center as a winner of Mozart Concerto Competition.

She received her Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Seoul National University. She moved to the United States to study at the University of Michigan where she earned a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance studying with Arthur Greene and Sean Duggan. She also studied fortepiano with Penelope Crawford, harpsichord with Edward Parmentier, piano pedagogy with John Ellis, and collaborative piano with Martin Katz, who are all prominent professors at the University.

She has much experience in teaching a variety of students from young kids to adults. She served as a graduate assistant at the University of Michigan and gave group and individual lessons. She was also a faculty member of the Blue Lake Fine Arts Music Camp. In addition to her role as a pianist and teacher, she served as an accompanist for a Korean church choir.
