Press Release: 2/28/2007Musical Story Hour presents: Where the Wild Things Are Friday, March 2, 2007, 10:00am All Saints Church, 17 Clark Street Narrator: Helen Clapp Stevenson Piano: Michael Shea Clarinet: Todd Brunel Movement: Yas Ishibashi Appropriate for all ages. Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver Join Helen Clapp Stevenson, Executive and Artistic Director of Powers Music School, as she narrates this series of free musical story hours for the community. Each story hour will include great music and an age-appropriate story as well as an exploration of instruments. Children ages birth to 4 years old are welcome to come with their parents/caregivers to enjoy this great interactive program that is held on select Fridays during the school year. The final Musical Story Hour of this season will take place on Friday, March 2, at 10:00 am and will feature Maurice Sendak's story Where the Wild Things Are, with music improvisation by Michael Shea, Piano; Todd Brunel, Clarinet, and Music and Movement by Yas Ishibashi Enrollment is limited and early registration is required. Musical Story Hour takes place at All Saint's Church, 17 Clark Street in Brewster Hall. Please call (617) 484-4696, extension 17 to register. 32nd Annual Joseph Stein Chamber Music Festival> The 32nd Annual Joseph Stein Chamber Music Festival takes place on Saturday, March 10 at 5:30pm and 7:30pm at Payson Park Church. Each concert will showcase a range of ensembles from amateur to professional, and will feature music by Mozart, Haydn, and Bach. The Festival was created thirty-two years ago to honor the memory and accomplishments of Joseph Stein, a long-time Belmont resident and music supporter. Pow-Wow Registration for Summer Program begins March 5. New this year: Pow-Wow offers four sessions, including an extended day session from July 9 - July 20, 2007. Pow-Wow is a hands-on introduction to the violin, piano, music in movement, acting, group singing, arts & crafts and a final operetta performance at the end of each session. The program includes a Counselor in Training Program for ages 12-14. CIT's have the opportunity to help teachers with instrumental lessons and art lessons, help make costumes and perform in the operetta. Registration for Pow-Wow students is on a first-come, first-served basis at the Belmont campus, located at 380 Concord Avenue. No registrations will be accepted by telephone, fax or mail. Mildred Freiberg Piano Festival The Mildred Freiberg Piano Festival, recently renamed to honor the life and work of Mildred Freiberg, a highly esteemed pianist, educator and mentor to many, takes place on Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25 at Payson Park Church. The festival began forty-four years ago as the Belmont Piano Festival. Over the years this festival has become an annual tradition in Belmont. Pianists of all ages and levels of experience perform in this two-day event. Powers Music School, now celebrating its 44th year, is a non-profit community music school in Belmont.
