Power's Musical Story Hour
Powers' Music Story Hour
Ages birth to 5 years with their parents/caregivers

Narrator: Helen Clapp Stevenson

Join Helen Clapp Stevenson, Executive and Artistic Director of Powers Music School, as she narrates this series of free musical story hours for the community. Each story hour will include great music and an age-appropriate story as well as an exploration of instruments. Children ages birth to 5 years old are welcome to come with their parents/caregivers to enjoy this great interactive program that is held on select Fridays during the school year.

Friday, October 6, 2006 join us for the Story of Babar, the Little Elephant, who leaves the forest for Paris, France. When he returns to the forest, he rules Elephantland with his wife Queen Celeste, and they reign happily ever after.

Musical Story Hour takes place at All Saint's Church, 17 Clark Street in Brewster Hall, Friday October 6, 2006, 10:00 am - 11:00 am.

Additional Musical Story Hour dates are December 1, 2006, February 2, 2007, and March 2, 2007. Stories for these dates are to be announced.

Belmont Open Sings 2006-2007
Powers Music School Presents, Belmont Open Sings 2006-2007 season, with Mary Beekman as Artistic Director. Participants join in performances of the great masterworks for chorus and orchestra. Belmont Open Sings provides the public with the opportunity to sing while accompanied by a professional-level orchestra, and enjoy arias sung by some of Boston's finest soloists, led by Mary Beekman.

Concert times are Sundays, 7:30 pm.

October 15, 2006, Fauré: Requiem and Pavane
Fauré's original version of the Requiem was performed in 1888 at the Church of the Madeleine in Paris, where he was organist. It consists of the opening movement, the Sanctus, the Pie Jesu, Agnus Dei, and In paradisum. Faur‚ added the other two movements, the Offertoire and the Libera me,Domine, to comprise with these original five a version of the Requiem for grander occasions, and that is the version heard today in concert halls and churches.

Season Tickets for all three concerts cost $15 per person.
Individual concert tickets cost $7 per person (All ages).

Concerts take place at Payson Park Church, 365 Belmont Street, Belmont. Take the #73 bus line from Harvard Square and/or Waverley Square. Traditionally, return rides to Harvard Square, Boston and other areas have been provided to participants by those who have cars.

Family Drum Jam All Ages
Duration: One-day classes
Instructor: Susanna Fiore

Parents and kids of any age may come to this informal class. No experience necessary. Drums and percussion will be available to play. Learn how to produce the three basic sounds of the drum (tone, slap, and bass), and how to play claves, shakers, bells, and other percussion instruments. Sing songs, dance, improvise and learn simple beats you can try at home with your family.

Takes place at 380 Concord Ave, Sunday, October 15, 2006 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
