8/25/2006Powers Music School Offers Early Childhood Classes This Fall Powers Music School is offering a variety of Early Childhood music classes for ages 16 months, up to 7 years, including MusikGarten, Dalcrose Eurhythmics, Singing for Kids and Suzuki Musical Kids. MusikGarten, a program for children 16 months to 5 years is designed to awaken a child's natural ability to hear and make music. Dalcroze Eurhythmics, for children ages 3 to 5 1/2 is a learning program that explores music through body movement. Developed at the turn of the 20th century by the noted Swiss music educator, Emile Jaques Dalcroze, Eurhythmics is a marvelous way for young students to become involved in music. Singing For Kids for children ages 5 to 7, provides an environment where children learn to work in an ensemble through this hands-on introduction to group singing and music in movement. In Suzuki Musical Kids, for ages 2 to 3, children experience different ways of dancing and moving, singing, and playing rhythm instruments. Early Childhood Classes begin September 9. Adult Group Keyboard Classes This course is for busy on-the-go adults who want to learn the basics of playing the piano. Students will learn how to read the treble and bass clefs while they learn how to play melody and accompaniment. Keyboards are provided at the School but students must have a piano or keyboard at home to practice.

Powers Broadway Singers: A Vocal Performance Program
This group program offers individual and group performance experience for ages 13 and up. The class will focus specifically on audition and stage technique. The class performs scenes and selections from Broadway Shows spanning the past 100 years. At the end of the semester, students perform in a "Broadway Review," showcasing solos, duets, and ensembles. Intermediate to advanced musicians, ages 9 and up, are encouraged to join the program and experience the joy of making music with a group of like-minded players. Ensembles will meet weekly with an experienced coach, and will perform twice during the year, including at the Stein Chamber Music Festival on March 10th, 2007. Ensembles range from Chamber Music for strings, piano, winds and brass instruments, Flute Choir, Brass Ensemble, the Powers Jazz Ensemble and the Powers Rock Group. Auditions will be held from 3pm-5pm on Saturdays, Sept. 30 and Oct. 14, 2006, and Sunday, October 8th, 2006. Fall Classes begin September 7. Powers Music School Announces New Viola da Gamba Program for Children The viola da gamba is an ideal instrument for children interested in playing a stringed instrument. A cross between the guitar and the cello, the viola da gamba comes in three sizes and frets and it is played with a bow. The music for the gamba centers on the Renaissance and Baroque, but there is a growing contemporary and folk repertory as well. The new viola da gamba program includes attendance at group workshops. During the workshops, students polish their repertoire and develop good listening, music reading, and performance skills while expanding their ensemble awareness. Student workshops begin the third week of the semester and meet bi-weekly for 30 minutes. Powers Music School has an extensive collection of viols available Rental from the Powers viola da gamba collection is available to students in this program free of charge. At the end of the semester, students will perform in a "Broadway Review," showcasing solos, duets, and ensembles. Saturdays 1:00-2:30 p.m. Auditions will be on Sep. 16 from 1-2:30. Students may bring something to sing, or something will be given.
