Powers Conservatory Program

Powers Conservatory Program

The Powers Conservatory Program is designed for a limited number of passionate, dedicated students who wish to pursue strong classical training and a more comprehensive curriculum while exploring their interests. Conservatory students take a full academic year schedule of one-hour private lessons at Powers, group theory classes, and orchestra and/or an ensemble. Accepted students will receive a merit scholarship to help cover a significant portion of the cost of the orchestra, ensembles, and theory as outlined below.

The Powers Conservatory Program is supported in part by Ellen Huff Powers Merit Scholarships

Eligibility & Application Process:

The Powers Conservatory Program is open to a limited number of students ages 9-18 (through Grade 12). Acceptance is based upon playing level, teacher recommendation, and the need for specific instruments in our ensembles and orchestra.

Please complete the following steps to apply for the Conservatory Program:

  1. Complete a Powers Conservatory application online
  2. Ask your private lesson teacher to send in a recommendation by emailing dacsadi@powersmusic.org. The recommendation should describe the student's musical level, accomplishments, enthusiasm, and why they would be a successful conservatory student.
  3. Schedule a placement audition (ongoing during the summer and early fall). Contact our Director of Music, Dr. Daniel Acsadi, at dacsadi@powersmusic.org or 617-484-5750 to schedule your placement audition if you have not yet auditioned for MYSP or an ensemble.
  4. Enroll in 60-minute lessons, theory, and MYSP and/or an ensemble by sending in your completed registration form or registering online through your ASAP account.

Merit scholarships will cover the following tuition costs:

  • Music Theory – 100% off tuition, student responsible for $25 materials fee
  • MYSP – 50% off tuition
  • Chamber Ensemble – 20% off tuition
  • Chamber Duo – 20% off tuition
  • Large Jazz Ensembles – 20% off tuition

Audition Requirements:

Please Note:

Accepted Conservatory students promise to participate actively throughout the year in lessons, orchestra and/or ensembles, theory, and performance opportunities. There is no withdrawal from lessons, theory, orchestra or ensembles for Conservatory students, except under extenuating circumstances. No refunds or schedule changes can be accommodated during the academic year.

Please contact Daniel Acsadi, Director of Music, at 617-484-5750 to inquire about the audition and acceptance process.
