FROM THE DIRECTOR

I look forward to another exciting year as Powers enters its 44th year of teaching and performing music in the community. Over the years, the mission and goals of our School have remained steadfast: (1) to make sure that each student who studies at Powers comes away with a great music experience, and (2) to plant the musical seeds of developing a joy and love of music.

Learning ro play an instrument is hard work, but it also can be very rewarding. Powers Music School believes that sharing music with others is integral to a student's overall education and that for a student to play well he/she must perform. Performing strengthens self-esteem and confidence. During the year, Powers provides over 50 performance opportunities for students. Some events, like the 3rd annual Peter Elvins Vocal Competition and the Mildred P. Freiberg Piano Festival, provide opportunities for growth and enrichment not only for Powers' students but also for students throughout the greater Belmont community.

As of September 1, Powers will take possession of the entire 396 Concord Avenue building, continuing its vision of enhancing the Belmont campus. The upstairs will remain administrative offices and the downstairs rooms will host ensemble and group piano classes as well as other music classes. I truly look forward to having student music once again a part of our staff's office setting.

As you browse through this year's catalogue, I am confident you will find something to inspire your creative spirit. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Powers Music School, I encourage you to give us a try.

Regards,

Helen Clapp Stevenson
